Fully Guided A trip to Alaska's Brooks Range is the trip of a lifetime. You’ll see herds of caribou migrating like they have for thousands of years. If you feel comfortable you can take a outfitted semi-guided Caribou Hunt for the largest member of the caribou family, the barren ground caribou. Grizzly bear are often seen splashing after salmon in the river or foraging for berries on the tundra. Moose and other wildlife, including black bears, wolverine, and wolves are seen not far from camp often. He has been hunting in this area for over 40 years and guiding for over 20 years. His son’s adult sons assist with running the camp and guiding. They have both grown up hunting in the area and pride themselves with providing you a hunt of a life time. The enormous size of the big game animals has much to do with their location so far north they must have hung bulk to withstand the long cold winter. The camp is located above the Arctic Circle, in the Squirrel River Valley of the western Brooks Range. Clients fly into the Inupiaq village of Kotzebue where they board small bush planes for the 80 mile trip to the hunting area. Base camps consist of comfortable free standing Hansen Weatherport tents with cots and heaters, including a shower tent. The main tent is a cooking area and gathering point for discussing the days hunt. Cooking is provided by the staff using a modern 4 burner gas stove with oven. Transportation in camp is by foot, and Kawasaki 4 wheel drive vehicles with trailers used for hauling game and supplies. Meet face to face with a giant coastal Brown bear just across the inlet from Kodiak Island. These bears average 9 foot squared, and every year this outfitter puts a skull on in the book or scratches the edge of the score book. He enjoys high success rate in the past and takes 14 bear per year off of 88,000 acres with all the prime salmon for fishing or for attracting bears it work well for both requirements. You will leave Anchorage at 8 am via Penn Air to King Salmon and then a Penn Air Bush Plane will fly you into camp in Perryville on the Alaskan Peninsula. Here the land is muskeg but relatively flat providing excellent visibility for glassing from a high spot. Grizzly Bear Hunts We hunt two very different areas for grizzly bear. Hunts conducted in the Kotzebue area are for "Arctic" grizzly. These hunts are conducted north of the Arctic Circle in the fall season. The bear in this region have a wide color variation, with light blonde being the predominant color. Bear in this area typically range from 6.5 to a little over 8 feet. These are spot and stalk, fair chase hunts. Alaska Brown Bear Hunts We are proud to offer our clients several different options for our Alaska brown bear hunts, allowing our clients the best possible opportunity to harvest an Alaska brown bear. Elk Hunts-We provide excellent elk hunting in both units 75 and 741. The areas we hunt south west of Durango are located directly between the 3rd and 4th largest Elk herds in the state, those being the San Juan herd and the Disappointment herd respectfully. Mule Deer Hunts-The majority of our mule deer hunting takes place in Unit 741 on our private land encompassing approximately 15,000 acres. Black Bear Hunts-Fall bear season, both rifle and archery, runs nearly the entire month of September while the bears are spending most all of their time feeding on acorns and berries, getting fat for the upcoming winter. While bear tags can be obtained during the later big game rifle seasons, you must already have a license for either Elk or Mule deer.
