With 6x6 bulls and 5x5 mules over 180 B&C this is the place for the DIY to hunt that know what he is doing but just needs to have a place to do it. It doesn't get any better than this for the DIY elk and deer hunter, or even bear hunter. This lodging put you right in the middle of a huge Wilderness are that has very little hunting pressure. You will be entering from the back side of a wilderness area that is about 50 miles wide. Many, many trophydeer and elk have been taken here and even some big bruins durring the early seasons before they hibernate here. Do It Yourself Hunt (DIY) w/help This is the perfect beginning of a 2-3 hunter DIY hunt on 1320 acres of private land in GMU013 17 miles south of Hayden, Colorado. Pastures with fingers of cover are the roads that the deer and elk travel to get to the hayfields. The area supports local and migrating herds of deer and elk, There is a trick that quickly put elk down and the owner will show you how as he shows you the property and provides you a map of the property. There is an additional 160 acres to hunt that has an “As is”, A Frame cabin on it that is free to stay in although you might want to look it over before you stay their some repairs are needed. There is camping with a self contained trailer, or camper, or tent if you bring one, the options are yours. It is close enough to Hayden or Craig to stay in town also if you would rather do that. The lodging is not a part of this package it just happens to be on the property. Northwest Colorado is famous for its large herds of elk and other big game such as mule deer and pronghorn antelope. Unit 51 is located directly below Unit 52 in North Central New Mexico and is approximately 380,000 acres (594 square miles). This unit offers the hunter easy access, an excellent elk population, and limited hunting pressure. The unit offers almost a 100% opportunity to draw a license with the use of the outfitter number. We did not offer self guided hunts in this unit last year but our guided hunters had an 84% hunter success and a 100% hunter opportunity. Unit 52 is located in North Central New Mexico, with Colorado as its northern border. This unit is approximately 300,000 acres. The area has numerous open roads within the unit, often two to three miles apart, which allows the hunter access to areas to hunt by foot. This unit has an excellent elk population and the number of hunters is controlled, as opposed to most of Colorado’s public land units. The odds of drawing a license are excellent with the outfitter number. Bow hunts can be combined with a mule deer hunt and/or a bear hunt also, at no additional hunting fee.
